Piece-rate wages based upon billable hours

The Miscellaneous Wage Manager has been modified to enhance the ability to manage piece-rate employees that are paid based upon billable hours.  The Miscellaneous Wage Manager now allows hours and rate to be entered in order to determine the piece-rate wages due.

Miscellaneous Wage Manager

The following changes have been made to the Miscellaneous Wage Manager:

·   When using a piece-rate pay item, the base amount for the wage can be calculated by entering the hours (billable hours) and rate of pay.  If hours are entered, the base is calculated from the hours and rate entered and cannot be modified.  When hours are not entered, the base amount can be entered manually, as usual.  Hours entered for a piece-rate pay item are not considered hours worked, but are only used for the purpose of calculating the base wage.  This behavior is appropriate for piece-rate employees since hours worked will be calculated from the timecard.

·   Added total hours and earnings to the bottom of the grid broken down by those that apply towards the average regular rate calculation vs. those that do not.  The totals for hours also include a separate total for piece-rate hours.

·   Added shading and colors as visual cues:

o     Piece-rate hours highlight in light blue

o     Non-regular wages highlight consistently in yellow

o     Non-editable fields display with a gray background

o     The pay item type (displayed below the grid) may show in color:

-          ‘Commission’ will highlight in green

-          ‘Hourly’ when used on a piece-rate employee will highlight in light red (warning)

-          ‘Piecerate’ when used on an hourly employee with highlight in light red (warning)

Note: Rate and wage information can be hidden from non-payroll enabled employees that have access to the Miscellaneous Wage Manager for the purpose of entering piece-rate hours.  Set the appropriate user abilities for the Miscellaneous Wage Manager on the Payroll tab of User Group Setup and allow access to Employee Setup on the Setup/Misc tab.  Users that do not have access to payroll will need to access the Miscellaneous Wage Manager from the Employee Manager (Employee Setup).

Employee Setup

“Rates” set up for employees can now include piece-rate pay items so that different rates can be pre-defined for different pay items that may be used in the Miscellaneous Wage Manager.

Wage Source Report

In order to facilitate verification of hours worked by a data entry clerk, the Wage Source Report can be printed with only hours included (rates and wages suppressed).  An option has also been included to prevent SSN from printing on the report.
